Fabrizio Caròla (Naples, 1931) attends the National School of Architecture in Bruxelles. Since 1972 he conducts in Africa, specifically in Mali, an intense research on traditional building techniques. He discovers architectonic modalities that are completely eco-compatible and in respect of the location identity, based on the use of wooden dividers, earth, vaults, arches, domes and spirals. In 1987 he founded the association N:EA (Napoli: Europa Africa), ONG of international cooperation. He was decorated with the Aga Khan Prize for Architecture in 1995 and with the Mediterranean Architecture Prize in 2005.
