Chung Eun-Mo was born in Seoul and achieved in 1980 the Master in Fine Arts Degree at the Pratt Institute of New York. She lives in Italy since 1987 and organized a series of exhibitions among Italy, Europe, USA, Japan and Korea.

"A few years ago I spent a very pleasant afternoon in Napoli with a dear friend, looking at the exhibition of her paintings in a new venue and afterwards walking about the surrounding area.  I liked very much the way my friend had painted directly on the walls a variety of abstract shapes in subtle colours, bringing life and light to the space.  And the space itself, a newly cleared simple series of rooms with large windows opening onto the lively piazza in front and the walls grown soft with ages of use, seemed friendly and inviting. I came away thinking how well everything, friend’s good company, excellent exhibition, promising space and the bustling life of the area, all flowed together with ease adding quality to each.

That was my first encounter with the Fabbrica delle Arti. Since then I came to know Giusi Laurino, the singular charm and warmth of the person and the thought and effort she has been putting into the making of the Fabbrica. I have met a number of artists, artisans and assistants who work with Giusi to realize the projects of the Fabbrica. All increased the good impression I have kept from the first.

By working and through dialogues with the work over the years, one gradually discovers and forms a personal vocabulary, a way of making images suitable and pertaining to oneself.  As a painter I work with them and try to refine and enlarge them in each painting while sorting out in the quiet of my studio what the mind’s eye hopes to see. My chosen medium is oil painting.

It is a stimulating diversion to vary from this practice and apply my attention to different purpose, medium or method. Let it be a large public project, a mural for instance. Or, the making of some functional objects, be it a table, pavement tiles, stain glass windows, any objects which render our daily environment more pleasurable. Collaborating with the knowledgeable and dedicated craftsmen and organizers to realize such projects is a pleasure and an invaluable lesson.

Fabbrica delle Arti works to make all that possible, and I wish it to flourish and continue with many fruitful results".
